IEP Visa Update

Woooohooo it finally opened! And unfortunately it was at the not so greatest of weeks when Tyler left the country for a week long boys trip down to Mexico to go surfing and camping, so he was unreachable. Before he left he gave me access to everything and we hoped we just needed to submit the initial application and pay the $595.00 fee, and get everything else done when he came back.

It all turned out fine, as it opened Thursday morning and I just logged in and clicked submit and paid the fee, as all of Tyler’s information had auto saved. After I clicked submit, we got a email about 30 minutes later saying congrats, Tyler has a spot in the program and has until May to get all of his paperwork in. Initially applying through the Bunac website took no longer than 15 minutes. In the email there was about 5 attachments of paperwork including the actual New Zealand Immigration application, a checklist of everything he needed to do (super helpful and very clear). He also needs to fill out a health survey, get a chest X-Ray done, fill out employment history, basic personal information, and get health insurance. Tyler also has to show a arrival itinerary (so he needs to buy his flight before submitting the visa) and enough funds to cover $4200 New Zealand dollars plus another $1,100.00 to cover his flight home. They also gave us a complete list of helpful New Zealand Websites for employment (which I will be posting on our blog soon).

So long story short, it is now very real and we are getting so excited!!! We also looked at each other and was like whoa we leave the country in 5 months, we need to get our act together. and immediately started making lists of everything we need to do and how to save as much money as possible before we leave. We both had mini trips planned in January, Tyler with his boys trip to Mexico, and me with my girls trip to the Bahamas! Now that both these trips are done, our life is completely focused on New Zealand and saving money. Oh and Tyler signed us up for advanced diving certifications through Beach Cities Scuba for Christmas so we will be doing that in the next few months as well.
